Anti-Slug Survivor Builds That Actually Work in Solo Queue

Slugging is the most-hated killer strategy in DBD. These survivor builds counter it without requiring comms, voice chat, or coordinated SWF play. Tested in solo queue to patch 10.0.0.

Slugging - downing a Survivor and leaving them on the ground while hunting the rest of the team - is the killer strategy solo queue players hate most. It's hard to counter without comms. These builds are tested against slugging killers in solo queue with no voice chat and no coordinated SWF.

What slugging looks like in patch 10.0.0

The standard slugging playbook: killer downs Survivor A, then patrols the gens while Survivor A crawls. Once the killer finds Survivor B, they down them too. Now 2 Survivors are on the ground. The killer comes back to finish them off, possibly with a Hex: No One Escapes Death active.

This works because solo queue Survivors can't coordinate to come back for the slug. They don't know the killer is back. By the time they realise, both slugs are dead.

The build: Anti-Slug

The Anti-Slug combo runs Unbreakable + Sprint Burst + We're Gonna Live Forever + Decisive Strike. Four perks that independently counter slugging without needing coordination:

Unbreakable

Self-recover from the dying state. No more crawling and hoping someone finds you. The recovery takes 25 seconds (with the perk) but it's free - no other Survivor needs to come help. This single perk is the most direct counter to slugging.

Sprint Burst

150% haste for 3 seconds after breaking line of sight. If the killer leaves you slugged to go hunt others, you have a brief window to recover or move to a safer tile. Even more important: if the killer comes back for the pickup, Sprint Burst gives you a chance to make it to a pallet.

We're Gonna Live Forever

+100% healing speed + 6/8/10 second Endurance after healing a dying Survivor to injured. The "I'll get you back up before the killer can punish" perk. With this, you can unslug a teammate, give them Endurance, and both of you can get to safety before the killer returns.

Decisive Strike

The slug-killer perk. After being unhooked, you can stun the killer for 5 seconds with a free escape. If the killer tries to re-down you after an unslug, DS gives you a free out. It's the perk that says "you can't tunnel me off this hook."

How to play the build in solo queue

  1. Early game: Don't over-commit to chase if you see the killer slug someone. Stay on gens but keep an eye on the slug - if you can safely get to them without being chased, do so and use We're Gonna Live Forever.
  2. Mid game: When the killer leaves the slug, they usually patrol a 3-gen area. Use Sprint Burst when they break chase to reposition toward the slug. Always carry a medkit or have Self-Care ready.
  3. Endgame: If you have Decisive Strike available, this is the strongest moment to use it - the killer has to commit to a hook or risk giving you a free escape. Combined with Endurance from WGLF, you can survive multiple hook attempts.

The counter-meta: when slugging IS the right call

Killers who can defend a 3-gen (Hag, Trapper, Doctor with stalling add-ons) will slug because it's optimal. Don't blame them - the game rewards it. Instead, run this build and make their strategy cost more than it's worth.

Alternative: Self-Heal Solo

If you don't want to rely on team play at all, Self-Heal Solo runs Strength in Shadows + Botany Knowledge + Bond + Reassurance. This build lets you fully recover from the dying state without anyone ever coming to help you. Strength in Shadows lets you self-recover from dying state once per trial. Botany Knowledge makes your self-heals faster. Bond lets you see other Survivors nearby so you know where to crawl. Reassurance prevents the killer from re-doubling a teammate.

When this build falls apart

Slugging counters don't work against killers who:

  • Slug AND face-camp aggressively (your self-recovery is interrupted)
  • Use Knock Out + Sloppy Butcher combo (you can't see scratch marks + healing is slower)
  • Tunnel instead of slug (DS still helps but Unbreakable doesn't apply)

Against those strategies, swap to a chase build (Dead Hard + Lithe + Windows of Opportunity) or an altruism build (Borrowed Time + We'll Make It + Kindred).

Solo queue reality check

You will still lose games as solo queue. The killer's job is to find Survivors, down them, and prevent gens. Your job is harder - coordinate 4 strangers across voice-chat-less ping systems. Anti-slug builds don't fix solo queue; they just give you a fighting chance when the killer tries the cheapest strategy in the game.
