Dead by Daylight 2v8 Returns August 19, 2026 - What is New

Dead by Daylight 2v8 mode returns August 19 - September 2, 2026 as a 4th-time LTM. New: Play While You Wait, 3 new maps (Greenville Square, Lerys Memorial Institute, Shattered Square), daily 50K Bloodpoint login rewards. Full guide to the Class system, Killer roster, build impact, and whether to play.

TL;DR: Dead by Daylight 2v8 mode returns August 19, 2026 11:00 AM ET - September 2, 2026 11:00 AM ET. This is the 4th return of 2v8 and a 2-week run with no new Killers but three new maps (Greenville Square, Lerys Memorial Institute, Shattered Square), a brand-new Play While You Wait feature that lets you grind Survivor matches while in the Killer queue, and 50,000 Bloodpoints per day just for logging in. Below: full dates, the 9-Killer roster, how the Class system replaces Perks, what to grind, and whether to play. This article is for DBD players who skipped the last 2v8 rotation and anyone wondering what changes this time.

When is 2v8 back in 2026

The 2v8 game mode returns to Dead by Daylight on Tuesday, August 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET and runs until Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET. That is a 2-week window. Per the official BHVR announcement, this is the 4th time 2v8 has returned since its July 2024 debut.

The 2-week run is part of the larger Summer Screams event, which also rotates Chaos Shuffle and Lights Out through the LTM slot. A longer 2v8 stint is also expected in September 2026 as part of the post-Summer-Screams schedule, per the 10th-anniversary roadmap revealed June 14, 2026.

Quick reference for your calendar:

Event Date Notes
2v8 v5 launch (this post) August 19, 2026 11:00 AM ET First day of v5
2v8 v5 ends September 2, 2026 11:00 AM ET 2-week run
2v8 v6 (longer stint) September 2026 (TBD) Dates not yet confirmed

Players who do not log in during the August window will still have a chance to grind 2v8 again in September, but the daily login rewards and the three new maps are time-limited to the August 19 - September 2 run.

What is new in the August 2026 2v8

The 4th return of 2v8 is a quality-of-life iteration, not a content expansion. There are no new Killers and no new Survivor classes in this run. The two real changes are the Play While You Wait feature and three new 2v8-specific maps.

1. Play While You Wait (new feature)

Killer queue times for 2v8 have been a consistent community complaint since the mode launched. The new Play While You Wait feature addresses this by letting Killer players in the 2v8 queue drop into a 2v8 Survivor match while they wait. When that Survivor match ends, they are automatically returned to their original Killer queue position. The queue time is shown in the UI so players can decide whether to play while waiting or stay in the menu.

This is a beta feature, per BHVR, and they are still working on a long-term solution for queue times. Play While You Wait will also feed into the standard queue-time balancing system, which dynamically opens the queue to 1v4 Survivor matches when 2v8 Killer demand is high (so a surplus of Survivor players can also play a standard match instead of idling). Source: BHVR 2v8 Play While You Wait announcement.

For the v5 update specifically, the only Killer balance change is a small buff to The Blight (the Slam cooldown recovery is now slightly faster), per the BHVR 2v8 Developer Update. The full Killer roster of 9 remains unchanged from v4.

2. Three new 2v8 maps

Three new 2v8-specific maps enter the rotation. They are supersized versions of standard DBD maps, built for the 2v8 player count and pacing.

  • Greenville Square - a new take on the Coldwind Farm / Lampkin Lane area, with the famous "safe double pallets" that define 2v8 chases.
  • Lerys Memorial Institute - the indoor hospital map, reworked for 2v8 with three exit gates and 13 generators.
  • Shattered Square - an outdoor urban map based on the Eyrie of Crows realm.

Combined with the existing pool, the v5 rotation now includes approximately 24 maps. The full list is below in the Map rotation section.

3. Rewards (daily login + Tome)

There is no paid reward track for 2v8 v5, but there is a free login bonus and a Tome. The 2v8 event grants three rewards for participating:

  • Gory Pinata Charm - a universal badge that appears in the lobby for all players who finish at least one 2v8 match.
  • Life of the Party Portrait - a Dwight-focused cosmetic portrait (2v8 themed).
  • Sharing Time Portrait - a Claudette-focused cosmetic portrait (2v8 themed).

On top of that, 50,000 Bloodpoints per day just for logging in during the August 19 - September 2 window. That is 800,000 BP if you log in every single day. For players looking to spend those points, the Black Banquet farming builds guide is still active, and our DBD10BIRTHDAY code guide (which also grants Bloodpoints) is in the same anniversary window.

How to grind the rewards during 2v8

If your main goal for the 2v8 window is the 50K daily login Bloodpoints, here is the efficient path:

  1. Log in any time after 11:00 AM ET on the day you want to claim. The 50K is a daily login bonus, not a "play X matches" reward, so you do not need to actually queue.
  2. For the Tome rewards, you need to play at least one 2v8 match. Pick the Killer class you want to try, or queue as a Survivor and let the new Play While You Wait feature carry you through.
  3. If you have the Killer class you main at near-max level on standard DBD, the fastest way to "complete" the 2v8 daily is to queue as Killer, get into a match, and let the new Play While You Wait flow cycle you in if a Survivor slot opens.
  4. Standard DBD continues to run in parallel. While 2v8 is active, you can also keep grinding your standard Bloodweb, Prestige, and perk unlocks. The two queues are independent.

The Gory Pinata Charm, Life of the Party Portrait, and Sharing Time Portrait are all account-wide unlocks. You only need to finish the 2v8 Tome on one character to claim them.

2v8 mode mechanics: the quick recap

2v8 is the alternate asymmetric mode where 2 Killers face 8 Survivors in a single supersized Trial. Standard 1v4 perks are disabled, replaced by a Class system that gives both sides preset abilities. Here is the canonical mechanic sheet, useful if you skipped the previous 2v8 runs.

Mechanic 2v8 standard
Format 2 Killers vs 8 Survivors, single Trial
Map size Supersized standard DBD map, 13 generators total
Win condition (Survivors) Repair 8 of 13 generators, then exit through 1 of 3 exit gates
Win condition (Killers) Cage 3 times or close the hatches
Hooks None. Cages replace hooks entirely
Standard Perks Disabled. Class system replaces them
Cage state (Survivors) 3 cages = dead
Generator catch-up 5% slower repair per completed gen, 2.5% faster repair per active cage state
Hatches 3 hatches when 2 Survivors remain

The 9 Killer roster for 2v8 v5

2v8 has its own curated Killer roster that does not include the full 42-Killer standard DBD lineup. Only 9 Killers are playable in v5. The roster has not changed since v4 in April 2026, though The Blight got a small Slam recovery buff in v5.

Killer Tier in 2v8 Why it is in 2v8
The Trapper A Bear traps slow Survivors, no teammate interference
The Wraith B Cloak mobility, fast Ambush attacks
The Hillbilly A Chainsaw pressure, 2v8 mobility meta
The Nurse S Best 2v8 Killer, blink + add-on rework for team play
The Huntress A Hatchets zone the map
The Spirit S Phase-walk + active phasing tuned for 2v8
The Deathslinger A Reel-and-shoot pressure, no break if partner hits
The Blight S Rush speed 9.2 to 10.5 m/s, bounce chains with partner
The Legion B Frenzy in chase, body blocking in 2v8

Source: Dead by Daylight Wiki 2v8 page. The 2v8 version of The Blight is tuned to be the fastest Killer in the mode, but the v5 buff is minor (faster Slam recovery, not the rush speed).

Not in 2v8: licensed Killers (Pyramid Head, The Pig, The Nemesis, The Executioner), the 2024 chapter Killers (Dredge, Wesker, The Knight, Skull Merchant, The Singularity, The Unknown, The Lich, The Dark Lord, Krasue, The First, The Animatronic, Jason Voorhees), and every older chapter Killer. This is the curated 2v8 roster, not a 2v8 limitation. If your main is not on this list, you cannot play them in 2v8.

Class system explained (replaces standard Perks)

2v8 does not let you bring your standard Perks. Instead, every Killer and Survivor picks a Class at the start of the match. Each Class has a preset Class Ability, an Info Ability, and (for Survivors) an Unlock Ability that activates after the first cage. Killers pick one of four Classes, Survivors pick one of four. Per the BHVR 2v8 v2 announcement, the full Class roster is:

Side Class Role
Killer Shadow Undetectable when near teammate, transfers on injury
Killer Brute 25% faster break, kicks a generator to weaken it
Killer Enforcer Haste when chasing injured, marks hit Survivors for partner
Killer Fearmonger 5% Haste when unseen, injured-Survivor aura scream
Survivor Medic 50% heal speed boost in 8m, active instant group heal
Survivor Scout Crouch speed boost, Killer aura reveal, pallet reset
Survivor Guide 3% bonus Great Skill Check progress, repair auras
Survivor Escapist Sprint Haste in 8m, silent rush, self-heal at 70%

For the v5 run, no new Classes were added. The Class system is unchanged from v4. Pairs that work well together: Medic + Escapist (heal + self-sustain), Brute + Fearmonger (regression + map pressure), Scout + Guide (info + objective). Each Killer team must have unique Classes, so your duo partner picks before you.

Should you play 2v8 in August 2026

Short answer: yes, but only for the daily 50K Bloodpoints and the cosmetic unlocks. The mode itself is in a quality-of-life phase, not a content-expansion phase, so if you bounced off 2v8 in v3 or v4, v5 will not change your mind. The new Play While You Wait feature is the one substantive improvement, and it is a Killer-queue improvement, not a Survivor-experience improvement.

For players who already main 2v8, v5 is worth the 2-week commitment: three new maps, the Play While You Wait feature means shorter Killer queue downtime, and the Gory Pinata Charm is a fun account-wide unlock. For players who skipped 2v8 entirely or bounced off it in v1 or v2, the August run is a low-stakes window to try it for the 50K Bloodpoints per day alone, with the September longer stint as your real test if you want more time.

The honest tradeoff: 2v8 disables your standard Perks. If you have invested heavily in the standard meta, 2v8 will feel like a different game for those 2 weeks. The Class system is its own skill curve, and the 9-Killer roster means most of your main roster is unavailable. Treat v5 as a 2-week Bloodpoint-farming event, not a perk-build session.

For full standard DBD perk-build content while 2v8 is running, the Patch 10.0.0 killer tier list and the Black Banquet farming builds still apply. The 2v8 window does not change the standard meta.

Frequently asked questions

When does 2v8 come back in 2026?

2v8 returns to Dead by Daylight on August 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET and runs until September 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET. A longer 2v8 stint is planned for September 2026 as part of the post-Summer-Screams schedule. Source: BHVR official.

Is 2v8 back in DBD right now?

Yes. From July 18, 2026, the most recent 2v8 run was v4 (April 28 - May 19, 2026). v5 launches August 19, 2026. Between the two runs, standard DBD, Chaos Shuffle, and other LTMs were the primary game modes.

What is the Play While You Wait feature in 2v8?

Play While You Wait is a new 2v8 quality-of-life feature for the v5 run. Killer players in the 2v8 queue can opt to play a 2v8 Survivor match in the meantime. When the Survivor match ends, you are automatically returned to your original Killer queue position. The queue time is shown in the UI so you can decide whether to play while waiting or stay in the menu. Source: BHVR 2v8 announcement.

Do I get free Bloodpoints during 2v8?

Yes. Logging in any day during the August 19 - September 2, 2026 window grants 50,000 Bloodpoints as a daily login bonus. Logging in every day grants 800,000 BP total. The bonus stacks on top of the standard login rewards. There is no perk or character unlock required.

What is the 2v8 class system?

2v8 disables standard Perks. Instead, every Killer picks one of 4 Classes (Shadow, Brute, Enforcer, Fearmonger) and every Survivor picks one of 4 Classes (Medic, Scout, Guide, Escapist). Each Class has a preset Class Ability, an Info Ability, and (for Survivors) an Unlock Ability that activates after the first cage. The Class system has been stable since v2 (November 2024) and is unchanged in v5. Source: BHVR 2v8 v2 announcement.

Which Killers are in 2v8 in 2026?

The 2v8 v5 roster is 9 Killers: The Trapper, The Wraith, The Hillbilly, The Nurse, The Huntress, The Spirit, The Deathslinger, The Blight, and The Legion. Licensed Killers (Pyramid Head, The Pig, Nemesis, etc.) and recent chapter Killers (Wesker, The Knight, The Singularity, etc.) are not playable in 2v8.

Should I play 2v8 or standard DBD in August 2026?

Both. 2v8 does not affect the standard DBD queue, so you can play both during the 2-week window. The 50K Bloodpoints per day login is the main reason to log in during 2v8 even if you do not actually play 2v8 matches. The Gory Pinata Charm, Life of the Party Portrait, and Sharing Time Portrait require at least one 2v8 match to claim.

Bottom line

2v8 returns to Dead by Daylight on August 19, 2026 for a 2-week run. The new Play While You Wait feature and the three new maps (Greenville Square, Lerys Memorial Institute, Shattered Square) are the only real changes. No new Killers, no new Survivor classes, no major balance shifts. The 50K Bloodpoints per day and the three cosmetic rewards make it worth logging in even if you bounce off the mode. If you main a Killer not in the 2v8 roster, this is a 2-week Bloodpoint-farming window for the standard meta, not a perk-build session. For the latest on the September 2v8 longer stint, follow the BHVR roadmap and the official news at deadbydaylight.com/news.

For the standard DBD perk combo content that still applies during the 2v8 window, see our Patch 10.0.0 killer tier list, our Black Banquet farming builds guide, and the DBD10BIRTHDAY code guide for the same anniversary window.
