This article is for Dead by Daylight players who want a single breakdown of the upcoming 10.2.0 PTB perk overhaul before it goes live on the September 16 test build. If you main a meta Killer or Survivor, run slowdown or anti-tunnel builds, or just want to know which of your favourite perks will still be worth slotting in next patch, this is the page. We cross-checked the September 8 BHVR roadmap, the September 10 Behaviour Forum "An attempt at addressing tunneling" post, and the September 12 PTB build leak against the live patch notes for 10.1.1 and 10.1.2.

What Is the DBD 10.2.0 PTB and When Does It Go Live?
The 10.2.0 PTB is Behaviour Interactive's mid-chapter Player Test Build for September 2026, sitting between the August 25 launch of The Judgment and the November arrival of the next chapter (Castlevania, per BHVR's roadmap). It opens September 16, 2026 on PC and runs for roughly 14 days before the live patch lands, which the Japanese wiki kamigame.jp projects for October 7, 2026.
PTB 10.2.0 is exclusively a balance patch. There are no Killer Power changes, no new map, no new chapter, no new Survivor item, and no new add-on. The entire scope is perks: 45 or more perks touched, with roughly half on each side of the fog, in two distinct change categories that Behaviour calls "regular perk adjustments" and "overlap system adjustments". The Quick Chat messaging wheel feature, teased since August, is also expected to ship in this PTB.
The full schedule is:
- September 16, 2026 - PTB 10.2.0 opens on Steam (PC only).
- Late September / Early October 2026 - PTB feedback collected and consolidated.
- October 7, 2026 - Projected live release of Patch 10.2.0.
- November 2026 - Castlevania chapter PTB and release.
Why 45 Perks Are Being Reworked - The BHVR Philosophy
Behaviour Interactive's official explanation for the size of the rework comes from Matt S, Dead by Daylight's Design Director, who described the update as "an intentional attempt to shake things up" and noted it "may very well take the crown as the most substantial one in Dead by Daylight history".
The reasoning has two threads, both visible in the September 10 BHVR forum post that previews the rework:
- Diminishing Returns has gutted percentage-stacking perks. Since 9.6.0 introduced the system, perks that add a flat percent to repair speed, healing speed, action speed, or vault speed have been quietly halved or worse in real matches. Power of Two + Blood Pact used to combine for 12% Haste; under DR they cap at around 9.5%. Brutal Strength + Fire Up used to feel meaningful; now they barely move the needle. The 10.2.0 rework rewrites many of these perks so they ignore DR or interact with it cleanly.
- Generic / universal perks are stale. Perks like Self-Care, Sprint Burst, Dead Hard, Iron Will, and Decisive Strike have been the loadout backbone since 2017. None of them have had a ground-up rework, just number tweaks. The 10.2.0 PTB rewrites several of them from scratch to fit 2026 game speeds, healing economy, and the Endgame Collapse timer.
Two separate buckets are getting changes, and Behaviour has telegraphed the philosophy for each:
- Regular perk adjustments: the generic, universal, "free with the game" perks. These get either fully rebuilt from the ground up or modernised to current numbers. No perk in this bucket is being nerfed for the sake of nerfing - the goal is to make them feel as impactful as a 2026 perk should.
- Overlap / Diminishing-Returns system adjustments: perks that lose most of their value when stacked under DR. Roughly two-thirds are buffed so they survive the DR system with real power, while the remaining third are reworked so they either ignore DR or apply before DR stacks are calculated.
That split matters because the meta-defining perks are not spread evenly between the two buckets. Slower-than-meta regression perks like Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance and Pop Goes the Weasel sit in bucket one. Stack-or-die percentage perks like Prove Thyself, Hyperfocus, Blood Pact, and Power of Two sit in bucket two and are most likely to come out buffed.

Confirmed Killer Perk Changes in 10.2.0 PTB
The Killer meta entering this PTB is built on generator regression: Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance, Pop Goes the Weasel, Corrupt Intervention, Hex: Ruin, and Deadlock have defined the slowdown meta since 2024. All five are touched in this rework. Here is what is confirmed or near-confirmed for each based on the September 10 dev preview and the PTB build currently deployed on Steam.
Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance
Pain Resonance is the most universally run Killer perk in the game. On hook, it explodes the most progressed generator for up to 15% of total progress and Incapacitates the Survivor repairing it for 10 seconds. The PTB is expected to keep the core mechanic - hook a Survivor, blow up a gen - but to lower the regression percentage from 9/12/15% to a flat 8/9/10% across tiers, and to remove the loud noise notification Survivors were getting when their gen exploded. Both changes reduce the perk's information value as well as its regression.
Pop Goes the Weasel
Pop is the burst-regression counterpart to Pain Resonance. The previous mid-chapter overhaul already reduced Pop from 25% of total generator progress to 20% of current progress. The 10.2.0 PTB is expected to keep that mechanic but to extend the active window from 35/40/45 seconds after a hook to 40/50/60 seconds, giving killers a longer window to reach a gen and burn it. The number does not increase; the time to use it does.
Hex: Ruin
Hex: Ruin has been a meta mainstay for almost a decade and is on Behaviour's confirmed rework list. The previous rework made unattended generators regress at 100/150/200% of normal speed and added the rule that the Hex Totem reverts to a Dull Totem as soon as any Survivor is killed. The 10.2.0 PTB is expected to keep that "dies when first Survivor dies" rule but to soften the early-game regression from 200% to 150%, addressing a long-running complaint that Hex: Ruin + Hex: Undying snowballed the early game.
Corrupt Intervention
Corrupt Intervention blocks the three generators furthest from the Killer for 80/100/120 seconds at the start of the match. The previous rework added the rule that Corrupt deactivates the moment any Survivor enters the Dying State. The 10.2.0 PTB is expected to leave that mechanic untouched but to nudge the duration down to 60/75/90 seconds, since the perk is still rated S-tier even with the early deactivate.
Barbecue & Chili
BBQ already lost its Bloodpoint bonus in the previous overhaul and now only reveals Survivor auras 40+ meters from the hook for 4/5 seconds. The 10.2.0 PTB is expected to drop the Bloodpoint bonus entirely from the perk text (it has been effectively dead since the previous rework) and to raise the aura reveal from 4 to 5 seconds at Tier 3, with Tier 1 and Tier 2 unchanged.
Other Killer Perks Expected to Move
- Tinkerer - already moved to once-per-gen in the previous overhaul; the 10.2.0 PTB is expected to reduce the regression bonus from 8% to 5% and add a 1.5-second cooldown.
- No One Escapes Death - expected to reveal its totem aura to Survivors within 32 meters when the Endgame Collapse starts, addressing complaints that NOED was impossible to find post-EGC.
- Lethal Pursuer - expected to extend timed aura reveals by 2 seconds, stacking multiplicatively with BBQ and Nowhere to Hide.
- Save the Best for Last - expected to drop the Obsession dependency and become a generic obsession-trail perk.

Confirmed Survivor Perk Changes in 10.2.0 PTB
On the Survivor side, the meta-defining perks are Sprint Burst, Windows of Opportunity, Will to Live (formerly Decisive Strike), Off the Record, Adrenaline, and the boons (Circle of Healing, Exponential, Shadow Step). All of these plus a long list of healing and anti-tunnel perks are being touched in the 10.2.0 PTB.
Dead Hard
Dead Hard has been the most-reworked Survivor perk in the game's history. The previous overhaul removed the dash/dodge element entirely, replaced it with 0.5 seconds of Endurance, and added an animation cue the Killer can see. The 10.2.0 PTB is expected to refund Dead Hard's cooldown if the Endurance window is missed - meaning if you press Dead Hard but no attack comes, you keep the perk and do not trigger Exhausted. This makes Dead Hard a low-cost "reaction" perk again rather than a one-shot panic button.
Decisive Strike (now Will to Live)
The previous rework dropped the stun from 5 seconds to 3 seconds and disabled the perk entirely once the Exit Gates are powered. The 10.2.0 PTB is expected to restore some of the original 5-second window by tying the disable to Conspicuous Actions only, leaving the perk active through the entire endgame if the Survivor avoids repairing, healing, cleansing, or sabotaging. This is the most-watched Survivor change in the rework and the one most likely to be reverted in the first PTB hotfix.
Iron Will
The previous rework reduced Iron Will's volume reduction from 50/75/100% to 25/50/75% and disabled it while Exhausted. The 10.2.0 PTB is expected to restore the original 80/90/100% volume reduction and to remove the Exhausted restriction entirely, returning Iron Will to its pre-2024 stealth-king status. Combined with the Dramaturgy buff from the previous patch, this could rebuild Iron Will into a top-tier stealth perk.
Self-Care
Self-Care has been the universal Survivor noob trap for years: the perk that lets you heal without a medkit but at 25/30/35% speed. The 10.2.0 PTB is expected to keep the self-heal function but to raise the heal speed to 40/50/60% and to remove the medkit-efficiency bonus entirely, separating Self-Care from Botany Knowledge and making the choice between the two more meaningful.
Borrowed Time
The previous rework made Borrowed Time baseline - unhooked Survivors already get 7 seconds of Endurance and 5 seconds of Haste. Borrowed Time now adds to that baseline, granting an extra 6/8/10 seconds of Endurance and an extra 10 seconds of Haste to the unhooker's target. The 10.2.0 PTB is expected to keep this design but to extend the Endurance to 8/10/12 seconds and the Haste bonus to 12 seconds.
Sprint Burst
Sprint Burst has been the most-used exhaustion perk since Dead Hard was gutted. It triggers when you start running from a still position, giving 150% speed for 3 seconds and 60/50/40 seconds of Exhausted. The 10.2.0 PTB is expected to keep the trigger condition but to shorten the burst from 3 seconds to 2.5 seconds and to add a 0.5-second cooldown between triggering Sprint Burst and re-triggering it after a vault. This is a stealth nerf that preserves the perk's core use case but reduces its ability to chain into a second chase.
Other Survivor Perks Expected to Move
- Prove Thyself - expected to ignore Diminishing Returns, becoming the first Survivor perk in the game to do so. Stacks up to 30% repair speed at Tier 3 unchanged.
- Hyperfocus - expected to drop from 30% per stack to 20% per stack, but also expected to ignore Diminishing Returns on the resulting bonus. Net buff when stacked with Toolboxes or Prove Thyself.
- Quick Gambit - expected to gain a 4-second aura-read window for every fast vault, becoming a stealth chase-information perk.
- We'll Make It - expected to add a 10% Haste bonus to the rescued Survivor for 5 seconds, on top of the existing 100% healing speed bonus.
- Resurgence - expected to drop from 100% heal speed on self-recovery to 75%, but to also remove the 25% regression penalty the previous rework added.

The Predicted New Tier List After 10.2.0
Tier lists will need a full rewrite after the 10.2.0 PTB goes live, but based on the design direction the changes telegraph, the predicted post-rework tier list for Survivor perks is shaping up roughly as follows. Numbers in parentheses are the change being predicted; "DR-immune" means the perk no longer counts against Diminishing Returns stacks.
Predicted S-Tier Survivor Perks
- Windows of Opportunity - unchanged, already uncontested S-tier.
- Will to Live (Decisive Strike rework) - likely re-promoted to S-tier if the Conspicuous-Action gate holds. Anti-tunnel build returns to the meta.
- Sprint Burst - likely stays S-tier despite the stealth nerf.
- Adrenaline - unchanged, still S-tier.
- Prove Thyself (DR-immune) - likely promoted from A-tier to S-tier; gen-rush builds return.
Predicted A-Tier Survivor Perks
- Iron Will (restored) - likely promoted from B to A-tier.
- Dead Hard (refund on miss) - likely promoted from B to A-tier.
- Off the Record - unchanged, still A-tier.
- Resilience - unchanged.
- Kindred - unchanged.
- Quick Gambit - likely promoted from C to A-tier.
Predicted Drops
- Self-Care (40/50/60% self-heal) - likely drops from C-tier to niche as Botany Knowledge becomes the clear pick.
- Hyperfocus - 20% per stack but DR-immune, so it stays situational but no longer dead.
- We'll Make It - if the Haste bonus lands, climbs from B-tier to A-tier.
The post-10.2.0 Killer tier list is harder to call because the buff direction on bucket-two regression perks is unclear. Pain Resonance and Corrupt Intervention should remain S-tier; Hex: Ruin and Pop Goes the Weasel will likely drop from S to A-tier if the duration nerf lands.

5 New Builds You Should Test on PTB Day One
Based on the predicted changes above, here are five builds we recommend you test the moment the PTB goes live. None of these are "optimal" yet - they are hypothesis builds built around the new perk shapes, designed to surface any obvious balance failures before the live patch.
Build 1 - "Pilgrim 2.0" Anti-Tunnel Survivor Build
The original Pilgrim build from our Plague counter guide was built around Boon: Circle of Healing plus the anti-tunnel trio. After 10.2.0, the predicted Iron Will restoration and Will to Live rework make a similar build much stronger. Run Iron Will (restored), Will to Live (Decisive Strike rework), Off the Record, and Kindred. The goal is to make every Killer tunnel into a stun, an aura reveal, and a 4-second speed burst. This build is designed to test the Conspicuous-Action disable on the new Will to Live: if the gate is too punishing, expect hotfixes within the first week of the PTB.
Build 2 - "Gen-Rush Returns" Survivor Build
If Prove Thyself goes DR-immune as predicted, gen-rush builds return to the meta for the first time since 2024. Run Prove Thyself (DR-immune), Hyperfocus (DR-immune), Windows of Opportunity, and Bond. The goal is to surface any DR-immune perk combo that breaks the new system. We expect at least one BHVR hotfix during the PTB to cap DR-immune stacking, so the value here is finding the cap before everyone else.
Build 3 - "Slow Snowball" Killer Regression Build
This build is the regression equivalent of the Pilgrim 2.0. Run Corrupt Intervention (predicted duration nerf), Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance (predicted percent nerf), Deadlock, and Pop Goes the Weasel (predicted window buff). The goal is to stress-test the new regression timing: with Corrupt deactivating at 60/75/90 seconds and Pain Resonance dropping to 8/9/10%, you should be able to feel whether two-and-a-half regression perks can still snowball a match or whether you need a fourth slowdown source.
Build 4 - "Hex Stacker" Killer Build
Hex: Ruin + Hex: Undying + Hex: Devour Hope + Hex: The Third Seal was the original hex-stacker meta in 2022. Behaviour has been quietly nerfing this archetype ever since. The 10.2.0 PTB is expected to soften Ruin's early-game regression from 200% to 150%, which might finally make hex-stacking viable again. Test this build to confirm: if hex-stacking works again, expect a hotfix in week one of the PTB.

Build 5 - "Anti-Gen" Stealth Killer Build
This is a wildcard. Run Lethal Pursuer (predicted aura-read extension), Nowhere to Hide, Pop Goes the Weasel, and Dead Man's Switch. The goal is to see whether the predicted Lethal Pursuer aura extension stacks with Nowhere to Hide's damaged-generator reveal - if it does, the killer has near-constant information on every Survivor from match start to mid-game. This build will likely be patched, but it is the right place to start mapping the new aura-stacking meta.

Patch Notes Summary - What We Expect on PTB Day
Based on the September 10 BHVR dev preview and the September 12 PTB build leak, here is the consolidated expected patch notes structure for 10.2.0. Numbers marked with "(TBC)" are the designer's stated direction but the exact tier values are still being playtested.

Other PTB Changes
- Quick Chat - survivor messaging wheel feature (PC only on PTB).
- Bug fixes - the usual round of fixes for perks, add-ons, and map interaction.
- No Killer Power changes.
- No new content.
Quick Chat Feature - The Bonus Update Shipping With the Rework
The 10.2.0 PTB is not only about perks. Behaviour is also shipping the long-awaited Quick Chat messaging wheel for Survivors alongside the rework. The feature was teased in the August roadmap and confirmed by the kamigame.jp breakdown on September 8.
Quick Chat adds a configurable 8-slot radial menu Survivors can pop up with a single button press. Each slot holds a pre-defined message that the Survivor character voices in-game, visible to teammates through the chat wheel UI. The default slot loadout Behaviour ships with includes:
- "Heal me" - a heal request tied to the Survivor's current status.
- "I'm being chased" - an alert that triggers the Survivor currently in chase.
- "Killer is near" - a proximity warning when the Killer enters terror radius.
- "On a generator" - status that confirms the Survivor is repairing.
- "I'll take the hit" - a bodyblock request.
- "Look at the killer" - the Survivor points toward the Killer's last known position.
- "No" / "Yes" - quick affirmation/negation responses.
- "Help" - a generic call that lights up the Survivor's aura briefly.
The Quick Chat wheel is Survivor-only on PTB. Behaviour has indicated Killer-side quick chat is in design but not shipping in 10.2.0. The 8 slots are player-customisable, and loadout slots will persist across matches. This is the most significant quality-of-life feature DBD has shipped since the in-game ping system, and it should noticeably reduce "silent Survivor" frustration in solo queue.
The Diminishing Returns Connection - Why This Matters for Build Crafters
The 10.2.0 PTB cannot be evaluated without understanding Diminishing Returns. The DR system, introduced in 9.6.0 and refined in 10.1.1, applies a 100/50/25/12.5/5% modifier decay to repeated gameplay modifiers. Two perks stacking at the same modifier category (repair speed, healing speed, action speed, vault speed, haste) lose most of their second-source value.
The PTB's "two-thirds buff, one-third rework" approach to overlap-system perks means approximately 30 perks will either become DR-immune or stack cleanly with the system. This is the first time since 9.6.0 that DR will be a feature build crafters work with rather than around. The expected DR-immune perks include Prove Thyself, Hyperfocus, Quick Gambit, and possibly We'll Make It - all of which become dramatically better in stacked builds.
For build crafters, the practical takeaway is simple: stack the perks that become DR-immune, do not stack the perks that get reworked to ignore DR. The two categories behave differently in the new system, and the meta will quickly differentiate between them.
FAQ: 10.2.0 PTB Perk Overhaul
When does the 10.2.0 PTB go live?
The 10.2.0 PTB opens on September 16, 2026 on PC (Steam). Console PTBs typically follow 1-2 weeks later. The projected live patch date is October 7, 2026.
How many perks are being reworked?
45 or more perks, with roughly half Killer and half Survivor perks. The exact number was originally telegraphed as "nearly 40" but the official Japanese BHVR post confirms 45.
Are any Killer Powers being changed?
No. Behaviour has been explicit that the 10.2.0 PTB is perks-only. Killer Power changes are reserved for the November Castlevania chapter patch.
Will my already-unlocked perks be affected?
Yes. All existing perks are being reworked in place. You do not need to unlock anything new. The Bloodweb will simply show the new perk text and new tiers once the live patch lands.
Is Quick Chat included in the PTB?
Yes. The Quick Chat messaging wheel feature for Survivors has been in development since August and is expected to ship alongside the perk rework. PC-only on PTB; console rollout follows the live patch.
What happens to Diminishing Returns?
DR stays in place but approximately 30 perks will either become DR-immune or be reworked to interact cleanly with the system. This is the first DR-related balance pass since the system launched.
Are old perk names changing?
Some. Decisive Strike was renamed Will to Live in a previous overhaul. The 10.2.0 PTB does not rename any perks but does significantly rewrite their effects. Object of Obsession is already Bound by Obsession, Sole Survivor is already Down to the Last.
Should I hold off buying perk teachables from the Shrine of Secrets?
No. The rework applies in place to all perks; you do not need to wait. In fact, if you want to test the predicted changes on PTB day one, buy the meta perks from the Shrine before the PTB so you have them on your Bloodweb.
How to Provide Feedback During the PTB
PTB feedback is the single biggest factor in shaping the live 10.2.0 patch. Behaviour has consistently pulled changes back, rebalanced values, or wholesale redesigned perks based on PTB feedback from the previous overhauls. If you want your voice heard, here is how to make it count.
- Use the in-game feedback form - accessible from the main menu while connected to the PTB. Rate the overall PTB, flag specific perks that feel broken or dead, and leave a short comment. Forms with specific perk + reason + value suggestion are read first.
- Post on the official BHVR forum - the forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/ "Perk Feedback" threads get tagged by the dev team. Quote the perk name and patch number (10.2.0 PTB) at the top of your post.
- Submit clips to the dev team's social media - the @deadbydaylight Twitter/X account and the official Discord's #ptb-feedback channel both surface clips to the design team.
- Focus on one perk per post - threads that compare 5 perks get skipped because nobody can respond to all of them. A focused thread on Iron Will's Exhausted restriction with a 60-second clip of you getting caught while Exhausted will get a response.
- Play at least 10 matches - first-day impressions are noisy. The devs weight feedback from players who have at least 10 PTB matches more heavily.
The PTB runs roughly 14 days. Expect the first hotfix mid-PTB and a full patch notes revision at the end. Your job as a tester is to surface the broken cases, not to optimise a meta.
What Happens After the PTB Closes
The PTB timeline from BHVR's standard overhaul playbook is roughly:
- September 16, 2026 - PTB 10.2.0 opens on PC.
- September 23, 2026 - PTB hotfix #1 expected (community-flagged bugs and broken perks).
- September 30, 2026 - PTB closes; final feedback compiled.
- October 7, 2026 - Live patch 10.2.0 ships on all platforms.
- Mid-October 2026 - First post-patch hotfix (usually one or two outlier values).
- Late October 2026 - PTB for the November Castlevania chapter opens.
The October 7 live date is the same date the Castlevania chapter PTB normally opens, so Behaviour is likely running a back-to-back overhaul - perk rework first, then a new chapter on top of it. Expect a busy October across all DBD news channels.

Hot Take: The Biggest Perk Update in DBD History
This is the most consequential perk update Dead by Daylight has ever shipped, and it is not close. The previous 6.1.0-style overhaul rewrote roughly 40 perks over six months; the 10.2.0 PTB rewrites at least 45 in a single patch and couples the changes with the first DR-immune perk design. The meta will not survive.
If you main Survivor, expect to relearn your perk page. Iron Will goes back to being the stealth king. Will to Live reclaims its anti-tunnel crown. Prove Thyself is the first DR-immune Survivor perk, and gen-rush builds return for the first time since 2024. If you main Killer, expect slowdown to feel different in every match - Corrupt deactivates earlier, Pain Resonance regresses less, and Hex: Ruin no longer snowballs the early game. The meta is being rebuilt from the ground up.
The smart play for PTB day one is to test the predicted builds above, file feedback through the official PTB form, and do not commit to a meta build until at least the second PTB hotfix. BHVR has a strong track record of tweaking the first PTB based on community feedback, and the first 7 days of testing will tell us a lot about which predicted changes land cleanly and which need a follow-up patch.
