Dead by Daylight 2v8 Game Mode Guide: 16 Killers, 5 Classes, 4 Strategies

Dead by Daylight 2v8 Game Mode Guide: 16 Killers, 5 Classes, 4 Strategies

2v8 V8 runs August 19 - September 2, 2026 with 16 Killers, 4 Killer Classes, and 5 Survivor Classes. Full V8 tier list, best duos, class system explained, and meta strategies inside.

TL;DR

  • 2v8 V8 runs August 19, 2026 - September 2, 2026 as a 2-week rotation inside the Summer Screams 2026 event. The format is the same 2-Killers-vs-8-Survivors match with a supersized map, 13 generators (8 to escape), and 3 exit gates, but the Class system is now stable at 4 Killer Classes and 5 Survivor Classes after the Torchbearer dropped in V7.
  • 16 Killers are playable in V8: Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Nurse, Huntress, Spirit, Deathslinger, Blight, Legion, Nemesis, Mastermind (Wesker), Ghost Face, Oni, Dark Lord (Dracula), Executioner (Pyramid Head), and Good Guy (Chucky). Each one is the only instance of that Killer on the map, so your duo cannot stack the same character.
  • The 4 Killer Classes are Enforcer, Brute, Shadow, and Fearmonger. Each one shifts the dynamic of the same Killer chassis, so the same character can swing from chase monster to map control menace depending on which Class your duo partner picks. The new Torchbearer is a Survivor Class added in V7 that aura-reveals the Killer when you blind them with a flashlight - hard counter to Ghost Face and Wraith.
  • Best Killer duos for V8: Spirit + Nemesis (lethality + objective lock), Wesker + Blight (chase pressure + anti-loop), Trapper + Huntress (zone control + ranged), Oni + Dracula (lethality + macro), Nurse + Spirit (mobility snowball).
  • Survivor Class picks that win games: Medic (group heal + aura read), Escapist (Sprint Burst + Haste cap), and Scout (Killer aura read) form the meta triangle. Torchbearer is the new anti-stealth specialist, and Guide is the gen-rush alternative if your team is coordinated.
  • 2v8 disables standard Perks entirely. Your one-two-three-four perk slots, add-ons, and offerings are all replaced by the Class system. The skills are baked in. You cannot bring your standard Pop Goes the Weasel or Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance loadout. If you main a specific build, this is the only place in the game where it is irrelevant.

What 2v8 Actually Is (and Is Not)

2v8 is a recurring limited-time Game Mode in Dead by Daylight where two Killers face eight Survivors in a single supersized Trial. It launched on July 25, 2024 as a 3-week experiment and has come back roughly every three months since. Each rotation is called a "V" plus a version number. V8 is the current rotation, and it lands on Tuesday, August 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET, running through Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET.

Despite the "8 Survivors" in the name, the Killer team still has to down, cage, and sacrifice each Survivor three times to score a kill. The Survivor team still has to repair 8 of the 13 available generators to power the 3 exit gates. The big differences from standard 1v4 are:

  • No hooks. Cages of Atonement replace hooks entirely. When a Killer downs a Survivor, the Killer has to physically pick them up and walk them to a cage. The cage then teleports the Survivor to a Cage of Corruption after a channel.
  • No standard Perks. Every Killer picks one of 4 Classes, and every Survivor picks one of 5 Classes. Perks, add-ons, and offerings are disabled.
  • Map is supersized. The map is a 2x version of a standard DBD map. There are 13 generators instead of 7, 3 exit gates instead of 2, and more open lanes for the Killers to traverse.
  • Three hatches. If the Survivors lose gens, the Killers can close the hatches to end the match. This is the same mechanic as standard DBD but multiplied by 3.
  • Anti-Camp system on cages. After a Survivor reaches a second cage state, the cage gets an Anti-Camp meter that lets them relocate if the Killer is standing on top of it. This is the V8-specific quality-of-life change.
  • Repair speed scales with cage states. Each completed generator reduces all Survivors' repair speed by a stackable 5%. Each Cage State across the team increases repair speed by 2.5%. So the Survivors are gen-rushing early, then slowing down, while caged Survivors can come back faster.
  • Killer aura read range is capped at 64m unless 2+ Survivors are on a generator. You cannot ping a generator from across the map unless Survivors are committing to it.

2v8 is the only mode in Dead by Daylight where your standard Perk build is completely irrelevant. If you are a regression-stacked Huntress or a chase-tuned Wesker main, none of that loadout matters here. The only thing that translates is your mechanical skill on the Killer. The Class system does the loadout work for you.

V8 Schedule, Dates, and What is New in 2026

V8 is the 8th iteration of 2v8 and runs as the third and final part of Summer Screams 2026. The Summer Screams 2026 line-up is a three-week rotation of three Modifiers: Lights Out (Aug 4-11), 2v8 (Aug 11-18, then Aug 19-Sep 2 as the longer run), and Chaos Shuffle (Sep 2-9). The 2v8 portion has two phases:

Phase Date Notes
2v8 V8 - Summer Screams short run Aug 11, 2026 - Aug 18, 2026 1 week, 16 Killers, no new content
2v8 V8 - Standard run Aug 19, 2026 11:00 AM ET - Sep 2, 2026 11:00 AM ET 2 weeks, 16 Killers, 21 maps, full Class roster
2v8 V9 (rumored) Late October / Early November 2026 No official confirmation; expected for the anniversary window

What is new in V8 versus V7:

  • No new Killers. The V8 roster is the same 16 that V7 ended on. Chucky (Good Guy) is still the most recent Killer to enter the pool, and V8 did not add any new ones.
  • No new Survivor Classes. The five-class line-up is unchanged from V7. Torchbearer is still the new face.
  • 2 new maps: Ironworks of Misery and Temple of Purgation. The total map pool is now 21 supersized maps.
  • Anti-Camp quality of life: Cages of Corruption now use the same Anti-Camp feedback UI as the base game. After the Anti-Camp meter charges, the caged Survivor can relocate the cage, and the sacrifice progress pauses for 30 seconds when they do.
  • Updated Innate Skills for Deathslinger and Oni. The numbers are tuned slightly to keep them competitive with Spirit and Wesker at the top of the 2v8 tier list.

The biggest meta-impact change in V8 is the Anti-Camp system. In V6 and V7, a Killer duo could "cage camp" - drop a Survivor in a cage, then stand on top of the cage to deny rescue attempts. The base-kit fix means a camping cage is now a 30-second pause plus a free relocate, which removes the worst of the degenerate strategy. The meta has shifted back toward chasing down Survivors instead of camping cages.

The 16-Killer V8 Roster, Tier Ranked

The V8 roster is the largest 2v8 has ever had. 16 Killers is enough to build a duo around any playstyle you want - from objective denial (Trapper) to chase pressure (Wesker) to mobility snowball (Nurse, Spirit). Each Killer is unique to the team, so the same character cannot appear on both Killer slots. This is the canonical tier list based on the post-V7 PTB community rankings and the in-house V8 PTB data:

S Tier: The Killers That Win Games Solo

These are the Killers that perform well regardless of the Survivor Class composition, the map, or the Killer duo partner. They are the safest picks in solo queue and the strongest in coordinated duos.

  1. The Spirit. The Spirit's phase-walk body blocks entire jungle gyms, mindgames pallet loops, and bypasses any Survivor attempting to use the new Torchbearer aura reveal during a chase. In 2v8 specifically, the Spirit's Innate Skill in V8 reduces the detection radius of her phase-walk audio cue by 20%, which makes her effectively unpredicable on indoor maps. Pairs with any Killer as a chase carry. The standard Spirit build in standard DBD is chase-first, gen-pressure second - that same playstyle translates directly to 2v8.
  2. Wesker (Mastermind). The strongest chase Killer in 2v8. Virulent Bound (the dash) does not get reduced in 2v8, and the 3-hit down is consistent across both Killers running pressure. His Uroboros Infection stacks apply to all 8 Survivors, so a single long chase can cripple the entire team's heal economy. Pairs with Nemesis for the Uroboros damage race, or with Spirit for double-chase lockdown.
  3. The Dark Lord (Dracula). The shape-shift into bat form gives Dracula unparalelled vertical mobility. In V8 specifically, the Dark Lord's Innate Skill was tweaked to give the bat form a 1.2-second longer hover duration, which makes it the best map-traversal Killer in the game. Pairs with Oni or Huntress for the lethality overlap. Dracula is a solo queue recommendation for V8 because he does not need coordinated play to do well.

A Tier: Strong Picks With the Right Duo

These Killers are top-3 in their role but require a duo partner that complements their weakness. They fall off in solo queue but excel in coordinated Killer duos.

  1. Nemesis. Mutant T-Virus applies a damage and slow debuff that stacks with Wesker's Uroboros. In 2v8, the AI tentacle strikes work in tandem with the partner Killer's pressure, so a Nemesis + Wesker duo can lock a Survivor in chase while the other Killer cages the rescuer. The "Antidote" Limited Item spawns only when both Nemesis and Mastermind are in the same Trial, so the duo is the canonical way to play this combo. This is a 2v8-specific build that does not exist in standard DBD.
  2. Oni. Blood Orbs fuel the demon form, and in 2v8 there are 8 Survivors generating orbs constantly. Oni's V8 Innate Skill tweak increased his orb pickup radius by 15% specifically because the 2v8 map density makes orb generation uneven - the larger radius means Oni can power up faster on less-completed maps. Pairs with Dracula or Blight.
  3. Huntress. The map control Huntress. Phase 2 of her Wind-Up (the multi-hatchet) is the strongest ranged attack in 2v8 because there is no way for 8 Survivors to spread out enough to dodge it. The 64m Killer aura read range is irrelevant to her because hatchets do not require line of sight in the same way. Pairs with Trapper for the zone-control duo.
  4. The Blight. The Bounce Rush is the single fastest chase in the game, and in 2v8 the wider map size rewards Blight's ability to bounce across the open lanes. The downside is that Blight requires mechanical skill to play at the top level - the S+ tier is Spirit, Nurse, and Blight for the chase power, but Blight falls into A-tier in 2v8 specifically because the 8-Survivor team is more likely to have a Medic class, and the group heal can out-pace his chip damage.

B Tier: Map Dependent or Role Specific

These are the situational picks. They have a clear strength but require a map or a duo partner to be effective. If you know the 2v8 map pool well, these can be top-3 picks on the right map.

  1. Nurse. The map presence Nurse. In standard DBD, Nurse is S+ tier because of her ability to traverse the map instantly. In 2v8, the wider map and the larger Survivor team mean Nurse's blink windows are more often denied by a Medic class group heal. Still A-tier in the right hands, but the bottom of A and the top of B is where most Nurse players land in 2v8.
  2. Trapper. The zone-control Trapper. Trapper's Innate Skill in 2v8 lets him set up to 8 traps (instead of the standard 5), which means he can lock down an entire 2v8 genspawn with bear traps. Pairs with Huntress for the range + zone duo. The downside is that 8 Survivors can simply avoid the trapped area, so Trapper falls off on maps with multiple genspawns.
  3. Wraith. The mobility Wraith. Cloak-and-uncloak is faster in 2v8 because of the wider lanes, but Wraith's main value is the cross-map mobility. The 2v8 Innate Skill gives Wraith a 10% movement speed boost while cloaked that is unique to this mode. Pairs with any slow Killer as the mobility carry.
  4. Hillbilly. The chainsaw mobility. Hillbilly in 2v8 is a chase monster on indoor maps (Midwich, Hawkins) but falls off on open maps like the new Ironworks of Misery where the chainsaw chains are too long to catch anyone. B-tier on most maps, A-tier on tight indoor maps.
  5. Pyramid Head (Executioner). The cage-locking Executioner. Pyramid Head's Punishment of the Damned (the sword trail) does not get reduced in 2v8, and the cage of atonement can lock down an entire genspawn by denying windows and pallets. Pairs with Wesker for the cage + chase duo. The downside is that Pyramid Head is a slow Killer in chase, so a 2v8 Survivor team can simply out-circumvent the trail.
  6. Deathslinger. The ranged Deathslinger. The Speargun chain is the single highest-skill Killer weapon in the game, and in 2v8 the wider map rewards Deathslinger's long-range chain shots. The V8 Innate Skill tweak made the chain break slower, which means a single shot is more likely to result in a full down. Pairs with Blight for the ranged chase duo.

C Tier: Off-Meta or Niche Picks

These Killers are playable but require specific duos, maps, or Survivor compositions to be effective. They are the "fun" picks, not the optimal ones.

  1. Chucky (Good Guy). The smallest Killer in the roster. Chucky is hard to see and can hide in lockers and short walls. The V8 update did not touch Chucky, and he remains a C-tier pick because the 8-Survivor team is more likely to run a Torchbearer class, which can reveal Chucky when he is in stealth. Still fun in solo queue.
  2. Ghost Face. The stealth Ghost Face. Ghost Face is hard-countered by the Torchbearer class. If the Survivor team has 2+ Torchbearers, Ghost Face is essentially unplayable. If they have zero, he is A-tier. The variance is too wide for a stable tier list ranking, so he lands in C-tier.
  3. Legion. The m1-spam Legion. Legion was removed from the V6 2v8 roster, then re-added in V7 with a new Innate Skill that lets him Frenzy on the same Survivor twice before going on cooldown. This is the buff that brought him back into the pool. He is still C-tier because Frenzy is a chase ability, and the wider 2v8 map makes chases harder to close. Pairs with Wesker for the chase overlap.

The 5 Survivor Classes - Escapist, Guide, Scout, Medic, and the V7 addition Torchbearer.

The 4 Killer Classes Explained

Every Killer in 2v8 picks one of 4 Classes at the start of the match. The Classes are not tied to the Killer's power - they are a separate layer that changes the dynamic of the same Killer chassis. Both Killers in a duo must pick different Classes, so coordination matters.

Enforcer - The Chase Enforcer

Team Skill: After you hit a Survivor, you and your partner gain 5% Haste for 8 seconds. This stacks with the existing Haste modifiers from Perks, but in 2v8 there are no Perks, so the Enforcer Team Skill is the primary source of chase acceleration on the team.

Innate Skill: When chasing an injured Survivor, you gain 3% Haste per second, up to a 15% cap. This is the chase Enforcer's main ability - long chases become faster, and the longer you stay on a Survivor, the faster you move.

Killer Skill: When you hit a Survivor, their aura is revealed to your partner for 4 seconds. The partner can then rotate to the chase from anywhere on the map, which is the strongest info-pass in 2v8.

Best Killers for Enforcer: Hillbilly (chase monster), Blight (chase carry), Wraith (mobility).

Brute - The Gen-Pressure Brute

Team Skill: Kicking a generator also applies 1.5% regression to all other generators within 32m. This is the macro gen-pressure tool in 2v8 - a single kick on a 3-gen stack can roll back the entire genspawn.

Innate Skill: Breaking a pallet or wall is 25% faster. This is the secondary utility - the Brute Killer is the one you send to clear loops after a chase ends.

Killer Skill: Kicking a generator also damages it by an extra 3% on top of the standard 5% regression. So one kick from a Brute is effectively 8% regression, plus the Team Skill wave to nearby gens.

Best Killers for Brute: Trapper (zone + regression), Huntress (macro + ranged), Pyramid Head (cage + slowdown).

Shadow - The Stealth Shadow

Team Skill: When you are within 16m of your partner, both Killers are Undetectable. This is the strongest duo-stealth tool in the game - a coordinated Shadow pair can be undetectable for the entire match by just staying close to each other.

Innate Skill: When you injure a Survivor, the Undetectable status transfers to your partner for 6 seconds. This is the hit-and-pass mechanic - you swing, the partner gets the stealth window.

Killer Skill: You move 10% faster while Undetectable. This is the chase-window buff that turns Shadow into a surprise-chase class instead of a pure macro class.

Best Killers for Shadow: Ghost Face (stealth), Wraith (stealth + mobility), Chucky (stealth + small target).

Fearmonger - The Aura Fearmonger

Team Skill: When a Survivor is injured within 32m of your partner, their aura is screamed (revealed to both Killers) for 3 seconds. This is the anti-Stealth counter - even a Survivor using the new Torchbearer aura-blinding will be revealed when they take damage.

Innate Skill: When you have not been seen by any Survivor for 8 seconds, you gain 5% Haste. This is the surprise-pressure class - the longer you stay out of line-of-sight, the faster you become.

Killer Skill: Injured Survivors within 32m of you have their auras revealed to you for 4 seconds after they break line of sight. This is the chase-extension tool - if they break LOS, you still see them.

Best Killers for Fearmonger: Spirit (chase + surprise), Oni (lethality + chase), Deathslinger (ranged + chase).

The 5 Survivor Classes Explained

Every Survivor in 2v8 picks one of 5 Classes at the start of the match. The Classes are not tied to the Survivor character - the same character can pick any Class. Each Class has 3 Skills: a Team Skill (slot 1), an Info Skill (slot 2), and an Innate Skill (slot 3) that is unlocked at the second Cage State.

Medic - The Heal Carry

Team Skill: You can perform a group heal that heals all Survivors within 8m by 1 health state. This is the strongest group heal in the game - 8 Survivors means 1 Medic can carry the heal economy of a 4-person team.

Info Skill: You see the auras of injured Survivors within 64m. This is the heal-priority tool - the Medic always knows who needs healing first.

Innate Skill (2nd Cage State): Your heal speed is increased by 50%. The second-time-caged Medic is the fastest healer in the mode.

Best Survivor characters for Medic: Claudette Morel (Self-Care survivor), Meg Thomas (Adrenaline survivor), Ace Visconti (heal-boost survivor).

Escapist - The Chase Runner

Team Skill: Activate a Sprint Burst (150% Haste for 3 seconds) that you and nearby Survivors within 8m can also use. This is the strongest chase-escape tool in the game - the Escapist is the Survivor you want to be when a Killer is on you.

Info Skill: You see the auras of windows, pallets, and breakable walls within 32m. The Escapist always knows the optimal escape route.

Innate Skill (2nd Cage State): Self-Heal at 70% recovery speed. The post-cage Escapist is self-sufficient and does not need a Medic.

Best Survivor characters for Escapist: Meg Thomas (Sprint Burst native), Feng Min (chase + tech), Nea Karlsson (urban map specialist).

Scout - The Info Scout

Team Skill: When a Killer breaks a pallet, wall, or damages a generator within 32m of you, the Killer's aura is revealed to all Survivors for 4 seconds. This is the strongest info tool in 2v8 - a Scout is a walking radar for Killer positioning.

Info Skill: When a Killer is in your line of sight, their aura is revealed to all Survivors for 2 seconds. This is the LOS ping that turns the Scout into a walking ping-bot.

Innate Skill (2nd Cage State): You can reset broken pallets within 16m. The post-cage Scout can re-raise pallets the Killer broke, which is huge for the macro game.

Best Survivor characters for Scout: Dwight Fairfield (info + bond), Quentin Smith (chase + info), Nancy Wheeler (info + chase).

Guide - The Gen Specialist

Team Skill: While repairing a generator, your aura and the generator's aura are revealed to your team. This is the gen-ping tool - your team always knows where you are repairing.

Info Skill: You see the auras of all unstarted generators within 64m. The Guide always knows which gens are left.

Innate Skill (2nd Cage State): Great Skill Checks give 3% bonus progress. The post-cage Guide can chain Great Skill Checks for a major gen-rush.

Best Survivor characters for Guide: Feng Min (tech + gen), Jake Park (stealth + gen), Nea Karlsson (urban + gen).

Torchbearer - The Anti-Stealth Counter (NEW in V7)

Team Skill: Your flashlight has unlimited charges and a 50% longer blind duration. The Torchbearer is a walking anti-Stealth tool - the moment you blind a Killer with Ghost Face, Wraith, or any other stealth class, the aura is revealed to all Survivors for 4 seconds.

Info Skill: When you successfully blind a Killer, their aura is revealed to all Survivors for 4 seconds. This is the post-blind ping - the team knows exactly where the Killer is after the Torchbearer lands the blind.

Innate Skill (2nd Cage State): While holding a flashlight, you can see the Killer's aura within 24m regardless of their detection state. The post-cage Torchbearer is essentially a permanent Ghost Face counter.

Best Survivor characters for Torchbearer: Quentin Smith (flashlight native), Nea Karlsson (urban + flashlight), Feng Min (tech + flashlight).

The 5 Best Killer Duos for V8

2v8 is a duo game. The strongest Killer teams coordinate their Class picks and their Killer picks to cover each other's weaknesses. Here are the 5 best duos, in order from safest to highest-skill-ceiling:

1. The Lethality Lockdown: Spirit (S) + Nemesis (A)

Spirit as Enforcer or Fearmonger, Nemesis as Brute. Spirit handles the chase and the surprise-pressure. Nemesis locks down the gens with the Brute Team Skill regression wave. The 8-Survivor team has to choose between chasing gens (and getting jumped by Spirit) or healing (and losing to the Nemesis damage race). The dual objective pressure is overwhelming for most 2v8 teams.

Counter: A team with 2+ Medics can out-heal the Nemesis damage race. The Torchbearer class counters Spirit's phase-walk by reading her aura during the chase.

2. The Chase Carry: Wesker (S) + Blight (A)

Both Killers as Enforcer. The Enforcer Team Skill stacks when both Killers hit in quick succession, so a coordinated Wesker-Blight duo can chain 5% Haste procs back-to-back. Each Killer is a chase monster on its own - together, they are the highest chase pressure in the game. The 8-Survivor team has no time to gen-rush because the chases never end.

Counter: A team with 2+ Escapists can use the Sprint Burst Team Skill to escape the chase. A Medic on the team can out-heal the chip damage between chases.

3. The Zone Control: Trapper (B) + Huntress (B)

Trapper as Brute, Huntress as Brute. Both Killers as Brute gives the team double Team Skill regression waves. Trapper sets up the bear traps to lock genspawns, and Huntress clears the gens with hatchets. The 8-Survivor team has to either walk into Trapper's traps or eat Huntress hatchets. Either way, they lose gens.

Counter: A team with 2+ Scouts can read the Trapper's traps via the LOS ping. An Escapist can Sprint Burst through the trapped area.

4. The Macro Lockdown: Oni (A) + Dracula (S)

Oni as Fearmonger, Dracula as Shadow. Oni builds up Blood Orbs from the 8-Survivor passive gen-rushing, and the Fearmonger Innate Skill keeps the Haste rolling. Dracula uses the bat form for vertical map traversal, and the Shadow Team Skill makes both Killers Undetectable when within 16m. The duo is hard to predict, hard to track, and hard to gen-rush against.

Counter: A team with 2+ Torchbearers can read both Killers via the blind ping. A Medic on the team can out-heal the Oni demon-form one-shot potential.

5. The Mobility Snowball: Nurse (A) + Spirit (S)

Nurse as Enforcer, Spirit as Fearmonger. This is the highest-skill-ceiling duo in V8. Both Killers can traverse the entire map in seconds, so the 8-Survivor team has no safe genspawn. The Enforcer-Fearmonger combo gives both Killers a Haste window during chases. If you can land the blinks and the phase-walks, this duo is unbeatable. The catch is the skill floor - one missed blink or one bad phase-walk, and the Survivor team can collapse the gap.

Counter: A coordinated Escapist + Scout combo can read the Nurse's blink audio cue and the Spirit's phase-walk audio cue. A Torchbearer can chain blinds to force both Killers out of their mobility tools.

The 5 Best Survivor Strategies for V8

2v8 is 8 Survivors, and the team composition matters more than individual skill. Here are the 5 strategies that work in V8, in order from safest to highest-reward:

1. The Heal Triangle: 2x Medic + 1x Escapist + 1x Scout

The safest Survivor composition. 2 Medics carry the heal economy with the group-heal Team Skill. The Escapist handles the chase escape with Sprint Burst. The Scout provides the info via the LOS ping. The remaining 4 Survivors can flex into any Class. This composition out-heals the Nemesis damage race, out-chases the Blight bounce rush, and out-infos the Wraith cloak.

Weakness: Low gen-rush. Without a Guide in the composition, the team relies on standard repair speed, which means the -5% per completed gen stacks fast.

2. The Gen Rush: 2x Guide + 1x Medic + 1x Scout

The fastest gen-rush composition. 2 Guides chain Great Skill Checks for the 3% bonus progress. The Medic handles heals via the group heal. The Scout provides info. This composition can complete 8 gens in 6-7 minutes if the Killer team is not coordinated.

Weakness: Low chase escape. Without an Escapist in the composition, the team relies on standard chase mechanics. A coordinated Killer team with 2 chase monsters (Wesker + Blight) can out-pressure the gen-rush.

3. The Anti-Stealth: 2x Torchbearer + 1x Medic + 1x Scout

The hard counter to a Ghost Face + Wraith duo. 2 Torchbearers chain blinds to reveal both Killers. The Medic keeps the team healed. The Scout provides the LOS ping. This composition is unbeatable against stealth Killer duos but falls off against brute-force Killer duos like Wesker + Spirit.

Weakness: Limited chase escape. Without an Escapist, the team relies on the Torchbearer's blind to escape, which only works if the Killer is line-of-sight visible.

4. The Balanced Flex: 1x Medic + 1x Escapist + 1x Scout + 1x Guide

The default composition in 2v8 random matchmaking. One of each Class. This is the safest composition for solo queue because it covers all roles. The Medic heals, the Escapist escapes, the Scout infos, and the Guide rushes. The remaining 4 Survivors can flex into whichever Class is needed.

Weakness: No specialized counter. A coordinated Killer duo that focuses a single role (e.g. a Trapper + Huntress duo that locks genspawns) can out-pressure the balanced team because no single Class is strong enough to counter.

5. The All-In Gen: 4x Guide + 1x Medic + 1x Scout

The highest-reward composition. 4 Guides means 4 Great Skill Check procs, which is a major gen-rush. The Medic handles the heal economy. The Scout provides info. If the Killer team is not coordinated, this composition can complete 8 gens in 5-6 minutes and force a 3v8 chase. If the Killer team is coordinated, the composition collapses because the Guides are weak in chase and easy to down.

Weakness: Collapses to coordinated Killer pressure. A duo of Wesker + Spirit can down Guides before they can chain Great Skill Checks, and the team has no chase-escape tool without an Escapist.

The V8 Mechanics You Need to Know

2v8 has 4 mechanics that are different from standard DBD. If you main standard DBD, you will instinctively try to use the base-game mechanic and lose gens or chases. Here is the breakdown:

Cages of Atonement vs Cages of Corruption

When you down a Survivor in 2v8, you have to pick them up and walk them to a cage. The cage has a 2-3 second channel, then the Survivor is teleported to a Cage of Corruption. The Corruption is the second-stage cage where the Survivor plays a minigame to escape. The V8 change is that the Anti-Camp system now triggers on the Corruption cage: if the Killer is standing on top of the cage for 15 seconds, the Anti-Camp meter charges, the Survivor can relocate the cage, and the sacrifice progress pauses for 30 seconds.

This is a major balance change versus V6 and V7. In V6, the optimal play was to camp the Corruption cage because the rescue was impossible. In V8, the optimal play is to leave the cage and pressure a different Survivor, because camping the cage now gives the Survivor a free relocate plus a 30-second pause. The meta has shifted from cage-camping to cage-and-leaving.

Anti-Camp System

The Anti-Camp system is the same as the base-game Anti-Camp system on hooks. If the Killer is within a 16m radius of the caged Survivor for 15+ seconds, the Anti-Camp meter charges. Once charged, the Survivor can relocate the cage to a new spawn point, and the sacrifice progress is paused for 30 seconds. The Killer also gets a UI warning when the Anti-Camp is about to trigger.

The 30-second pause is huge. In standard DBD, a hook is a 60-second sacrifice. In 2v8 V8, a cage is now effectively a 30-second pause plus a free relocate, which means the Killer has to redo the entire chase from scratch. This is why the meta has shifted away from cage-camping and back to chasing.

Generator Repair Speed Scaling

2v8 has a unique generator repair speed system:

  • -5% repair speed per completed generator (stacks across the team). After 4 gens are done, repair speed is 80% of base. After 8 gens, repair speed is 60% of base.
  • +2.5% repair speed per Cage State (stacks across the team). After 4 cage states, repair speed is 110% of base. After 8 cage states, repair speed is 120% of base.

This means the Survivors are gen-rushing early (100% base repair speed) and slowing down late (60% at 8 gens). The Killers want to apply cage pressure early to flip the scaling. The optimal Killer play is to cage 2 Survivors in the first 3 minutes, which gives the team a 5% repair speed boost that offsets the 5% penalty from 2 completed gens.

Killer Aura Read Range (64m Cap)

Killers can only see Survivor auras within 64m unless 2+ Survivors are on a generator. This means a Survivor repairing a solo gen in the corner of the map is invisible to the Killer unless they walk within 64m. This is the main reason why 2v8 Survivors are encouraged to split up across multiple gens - it denies the Killer the aura read.

The counter-meta for Killers is the Brute Class Team Skill, which reveals nearby Survivors when you kick a generator. So the Brute is the anti-split-playstyle Killer, and the other Classes are the anti-stack-playstyle Killers.

The Best 2v8 Maps for V8

2v8 has a 21-map pool of supersized versions of standard DBD maps. The two new V8 maps are Ironworks of Misery and Temple of Purgation. The full pool is:

  • MacMillan Estate: Coal Tower, Shelter Woods, Suffocation Pit
  • Autohaven Wreckers: Azarov's Resting Place, Gas Heaven, Wreckers' Yard, Wretched Shop
  • Coldwind Farm: Rancid Abattoir, The Thompson House, Torment Creek
  • Crotus Prenn Asylum: Disturbed Ward, Father Campbell's Chapel
  • Lery's Memorial Institute: Treatment Theatre
  • Red Forest: Mother's Dwelling, Family Residence
  • Backwater Swamp: Grim Pantry, Pale Rose
  • Raccoon City Police Station: RPD Main Hall
  • Ormond: Ironworks of Misery (NEW in V8)
  • Eyrie of Crows: Temple of Purgation (NEW in V8)
  • Treatment Theatre: standalone
  • Mount Ormond Resort: standalone

Of these, the strongest maps for Killers (especially chase monsters) are Midwich, Pale Rose, and the new Temple of Purgation - tight indoor maps with short loops that the Killer can close chases in. The strongest maps for Survivors are Hawkins, MacMillan Estate, and Raccoon City - open maps with long lines of sight and multiple genspawns that the Survivors can spread across.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do 2v8 rewards roll over to standard DBD?

Yes, but the rewards are capped. 2v8 has its own Bloodpoint economy, but the rewards roll over to your standard DBD profile. The daily 50,000 Bloodpoint login bonus during the 2v8 window is the main one, plus the Tome challenges for the Gory Pinata Charm, Life of the Party Portrait, and Sharing Time Portrait. These are account-wide unlocks, so you only need to finish the Tome on one character.

Can I bring my standard Perks into 2v8?

No. Standard Perks, add-ons, and offerings are all disabled in 2v8. The Class system replaces them entirely. If you main a specific build, this is the only mode in the game where it is irrelevant. The only thing that translates is your mechanical skill on the Killer and your general game sense.

What is the best Survivor composition for solo queue?

The balanced flex composition (1x Medic + 1x Escapist + 1x Scout + 1x Guide) is the safest. The heal triangle (2x Medic + 1x Escapist + 1x Scout) is the strongest if the Killer duo is lethality-focused. The anti-stealth composition (2x Torchbearer + 1x Medic + 1x Scout) is the hard counter to a Ghost Face + Wraith duo. The 2x Guide composition is the fastest gen-rush but collapses to coordinated chase pressure.

What is the hardest Killer to play in 2v8?

The Nurse and the Blight. Both Killers require mechanical skill to play at the top level, and the wider 2v8 map means the blink windows and bounce windows are harder to close. The Spirit is the highest-skill-ceiling but also the most forgiving - her phase-walk has a wider tolerance for error than the Nurse's blink chain. For a new 2v8 player, the Hillbilly, the Wraith, and the Huntress are the easiest S-tier picks.

Does the 2v8 V8 queue time work with the new Play-While-You-Wait feature?

Yes. The Play-While-You-Wait feature launched in V5 and is still active in V8. If you queue as Killer and the wait is long, you can drop into a 2v8 Survivor match while the Killer queue continues in the background. When the Survivor match ends, you are automatically returned to your original Killer queue position. This is the fastest way to grind 2v8 Survivor matches while you wait for a Killer queue to pop.

Will 2v8 ever become a permanent game mode?

Behaviour Interactive has said yes, but not yet. The current plan is to keep 2v8 as a limited-time mode while they collect data on balance and queue times. Once the Class system is stable (and the V7 Torchbearer addition was a sign of progress), the next step is a permanent mode with matchmaking improvements. Expect the permanent version to land sometime in 2027.

What happens if my duo partner disconnects mid-match in V8?

You can still finish the match, but the Survivor team will have a 7-Survivor advantage for the rest of the match. The game does not pause, and you do not get a replacement Killer. The Survivor team gets a 30% gen progress reduction as compensation, but the match is essentially lost. The V8 update added a 10-second reconnect window, so a quick disconnect-and-reconnect can save the match, but a permanent disconnect is unrecoverable.

  • Best Nurse Build 2026: Same for Nurse - the 2v8-specific Class picks that turn her into a chase monster versus the standard 1v4 build.
  • Best Wesker Build 2026: The 2v8 meta is built around Wesker as the chase carry, so the standard build is the right starting point for the 2v8 Mastermind.
  • Best Huntress Build 2026: Huntress is the strongest ranged Killer in 2v8, and the standard build's chase and zone-control perks translate cleanly to the 2v8 Brute Class playstyle.
  • Lights Out Returns for Summer Screams 2026: The other half of the Summer Screams 2026 line-up. Lights Out is a stealth-only Modifier, and the 2v8 Torchbearer Class is the perfect counter to the Lights Out Ghost Face.
  • Best Killer Tier List Patch 10: The standard 1v4 Killer tier list that pairs with this 2v8 guide - the chase carry and the zone-control top picks translate directly into the 2v8 duo meta.
