Patch 10.1.0 is live. Aurora is the new Survivor in Dead by Daylight, headlining Chapter 41: Chorus of Sin alongside The Judgment (the new Killer). She is the first elderly female Survivor in the roster, the first Survivor designed end-to-end by community vote through The Grimoire program, and her three teachable perks (Fruits of Your Labor, Salvation's Cry, Boon: Steadfast) change the Survivor meta on day one. Two of those perks go straight into the A-tier on first read. One of them (Boon: Steadfast) is a direct nerf to the Killer regression meta that has dominated since the Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance + Call of Brine era.
Add the largest single-perk nerf the Survivor meta has seen in over a year: Sprint Burst Haste duration cut from 3 seconds to 2 seconds (with Exhausted cooldown dropping from 40s to 40s at Tier 3). Vigil's recovery rate nerfed from 44/55/66% to 30/35/40%. Deliverance self-unhook cooldown more than doubled. The post-10.1.0 Survivor meta is not the post-10.0.0 meta, and the builds that won before patch day will not win after. This guide gives you the three strongest builds for Aurora on patch 10.1.0 live, the perk-by-perk numbers confirmed by the official Patch 10.1.0 Live notes, and the counter-play for when you are paired against The Judgment in the same trial.
This article is for: Solo queue Survivors who main the new chapter, mains of Felix / Ace / Nea who want to bring Aurora on day one, and any Survivor player who wants to understand the meta shift before the weekend. The chapter has been on PTB since mid-August; the live patch dropped August 25. The numbers below are the LIVE numbers, not the PTB numbers. Anything in our Chorus of Sin overview or Best Judgment Build posts that conflicts with the live data has been updated here.
Who is Aurora, and what did the community actually design?
Aurora Stardotter is the Survivor side of Chapter 41, a Spiritual Scientist from a Collapsed World archetype, defined by Boldness. Her visual is a purple stargazer robe (the community-voted default look, 1,153 votes, 58.10%), with three optional head accessories (earrings, glasses, bandana, headpiece - players pick at the character select screen). She is paired with The Judgment in the trial: Aurora is the entity that destroyed The Judgment's home world, The Judgment is the entity that destroyed Aurora's home world. The lore arc is bilateral, and the gameplay reflects it - Aurora's kit is built around closing the gap The Judgment's ranged snipe kit creates.
For Survivor mains: Aurora is not a chase god. Her kit is built around gen efficiency and aura sharing. If you want a chase-focused Survivor, the existing Nurse counter builds and the Survivor Runner combo are still the meta picks. Aurora fits the gen-push playstyle - she is a builder, not a runner.
Aurora's three perks: LIVE numbers, with PTB diffs
Patch 10.1.0 changed the perk numbers from PTB. The live numbers below are the canonical numbers; the PTB numbers in parentheses are for reference. The biggest change is Boon: Steadfast: in PTB it was a single-Boost Boon, on live it is a hybrid that combines all of the user's other Boons. This is a major buff.
Fruits of Your Labor
Whenever a Generator is completed, you earn 1 Token, up to 5 Tokens. Whenever you finish repairing a Generator, for each Token you spend, you gain 5% Haste for 2 seconds and 10/15/20% healing progress (depends on Token count). The Haste is on the Survivor who finishes the repair, not the whole team. The healing progress is also on the Survivor who finishes the repair - it is a personal benefit, not a team heal.
Why it is strong: The token mechanic turns generator completion into a stacking resource. By the time the 4th gen pops, you have 3 Tokens banked. The next gen you finish gives you 15% healing progress on a single repair - this is faster than Botany Knowledge Tier 3 (which gives +11% healing speed on a self-heal action). The 5% Haste for 2s lets you reposition fast after the gen pops, which is when Killers are most likely to come for you. The perk is solo-queue friendly because it does not require coordination - you finish the gen, you get the benefit. It is also a hard counter to tunnelling: the moment you finish a gen, you have a 2-second Haste window to break LOS and force the Killer to commit to a chase or break off.
The math: A Survivor running Fruits of Your Labor on a 5-gen trial will have 4 Tokens banked by the time the 5th gen pops. That means 4 stacks of healing progress on the last repair = up to 80% of one self-heal action. The 5% Haste for 2s is a 2-second +5% speed boost = 0.46 m/s extra (4.6 m/s + 0.23 = 4.83 m/s for 2s). This is small but non-trivial - it is enough to break LOS in a tight tile.
What is the best Tier-3 build for Fruits of Your Labor? Solo queue gen-push builds. The perk is a straight upgrade over Prove Thyself on most maps: Prove Thyself gives 6/9/12% repair speed when working with other Survivors, Fruits gives 10/15/20% healing progress on the gen you finish + 5% Haste for 2s. The two perks have different use cases (Prove is mid-repair, Fruits is end-of-repair), and they stack in the same build.
Salvation's Cry
Whenever the Killer starts chasing you, you see the Auras of other Survivors for 1/2/3 seconds. Survivors who are NOT being chased see YOUR Aura for 5 seconds. Survivors who are NOT being chased see the Killer's Aura for 5 seconds.
Why it is strong: This is Kindred on-demand. The standard Kindred triggers when YOU are hooked - by then, the chase is over and the info is too late. Salvation's Cry triggers when the chase STARTS, which is the highest-leverage moment for aura info. If the Killer is chasing you and you see two Survivors 30m away repairing a gen, you can lead the Killer away from the gen and buy your team 30 seconds of free gen time. If you are the chase target and a teammate is also being chased, you can both see each other and play for the trade.
The reverse aura reveal is the real power: when you are being chased, your teammates see the Killer's Aura for 5 seconds. This means your team can pre-position to take protection hits, body-block, or pre-emptively move to safe tiles. The 5-second window is long enough for a coordinated team to set up a trade, and the perk is a hard counter to Nemesis-style chase builds that rely on catching Survivors unaware.
The math: Tier 3: 3-second Survivor aura + 5-second Killer aura = 8 seconds of total team aura info per chase. That is enough time for a competent team to play the trade meta. Solo queue value is lower (your randoms may not understand the aura reveal), but the 5-second Killer aura alone is worth a slot - it lets you know where the Killer is coming from when you are about to be unhooked or finish a gen.
Synergy with Kindred: Salvation's Cry + Kindred is the aura-stacking solo queue build. Kindred triggers on hook (post-chase), Salvation's Cry triggers on chase start. Together: aura info from the moment the chase begins to the moment you are hooked, and through the unhook window. The two perks cover the full chase-to-hook-to-unhook window with team aura info. The build also gives you cross-aura-reading from the Killer's perspective - the Killer can see you for 5s after the chase starts, but you can see your teammates too.
Boon: Steadfast
While next to a Totem, press the Use Item button to bless it, creating a unique Boon Totem that combines all of your other Boons. Generators within the Boon's range: regress 50% slower. Survivors repair them 8/9/10% faster (depends on the Boon's tier). Survivors within the Boon's range see the Auras of affected Generators.
Why it is the meta-warping perk: This is the most direct counter to the Killer regression meta that has dominated DBD since 2023. The 50% slower regression is on TOP of your other Boon effects, so a Survivor running Boon: Circle of Healing + Boon: Steadfast gets the Circle of Healing heal speed AND the 50% slower regression. The 8/9/10% repair speed boost is a strict upgrade on the base repair speed, and the 50% slower regression is a hard counter to every regression perk in the game (Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance, Call of Brine, Eruption, Pop Goes the Weasel, Surge).
The PTB-to-live change is significant. In PTB, Boon: Steadfast was a single-effect Boon that only blocked regression. On live, it COMBINES with your other Boons. This means the perk is now an enabler, not a competitor - you don't have to choose between healing and regression defense, you get both.
Why it is high-skill-floor: Boon Totems are visible to the Killer. A Survivor who Boons in the open is a free hook. The perk is only strong if the Boon Totem is placed in a position the Killer cannot easily find (inside a tile, behind a wall, in a 3-gen corner). The perk also requires the Survivor to commit to defending the totem: if the Killer breaks the totem, all the Boon effects end. The 8/9/10% repair speed is the safety net - even if the totem gets broken, the Survivor can finish the gen before the totem goes down.
Synergy with other Boons: Boon: Circle of Healing (35% heal speed) + Boon: Steadfast (50% regression reduction + 10% repair speed) is the meta Boon build. The two Boons placed at the same totem give a 3-gen area full heal speed + regression defense. The Boon combo is also strong on indoor maps (Midwich, Hawkins, RPD basement) where the Boon totem can be placed in a corner the Killer has to break a wall to reach.
The Survivor meta shifts you need to know from patch 10.1.0
Beyond Aurora's three new perks, the 10.1.0 patch rebalanced 9 Survivor perks. The two largest meta shifts are Sprint Burst (nerfed) and Vigil (nerfed). Three perks were buffed: Adrenaline, Apocalyptic Ingenuity, and Clean Break. The full list:
- Sprint Burst: 50% Haste for 2s (was 3s). Exhausted cooldown 60/50/40s. This is the largest Survivor nerf in over a year. Sprint Burst was the meta exhaustion perk in patch 10.0.0; the 33% duration cut means it can no longer be relied on for a full loop break. Workaround: Lithe is the new meta exhaustion perk. Lithe's 150% Haste for 3 seconds after a fast vault covers the same distance as old Sprint Burst and adds a vault-distance head start.
- Vigil: 30/35/40% recovery rate (was 44/55/66%). The nerf hits builds that stack multiple status effects (Head On + Sprint Burst + Dead Hard combos). The post-10.1.0 Vigil is still playable in exhaustion-stacking builds, but the value of the perk is lower. Workaround: run only one exhaustion perk per build instead of stacking two.
- Adrenaline: 50% Haste for 4s (was 3s), Exhausted 60/50/40s. Buff. Adrenaline is now the highest-distance self-heal in the game, and the 4-second Haste covers ~22m of distance. The buff pushes Adrenaline into A-tier; it is the strongest exhaustion perk for the "I need to get to the exit gate" endgame.
- Apocalyptic Ingenuity: 1 chest unlock (was 2), 3s activation (was 4s), Aura range 24/28/32m. Buff. The perk now creates a Fragile Pallet after a single chest rummage, which is a much faster unlock.
- Clean Break: 75/60/45s cooldown (was 80/70/60s), 1 chest rummage to activate (was 2). Buff.
- Deliverance: 160/140/120s self-unhook cooldown (was 100/80/60s). Major nerf. Deliverance was the meta self-unhook perk; the cooldown is now 2x to 3x longer. Workaround: Self-Care + Unbreakable covers the same use case (self-recovery) without the self-unhook risk.
- Moment of Glory: 1 chest rummage (was 2), 80/70/60s cooldown. Buff.
- Repressed Alliance: 55/50/45s channel time, 15s block (was 30s). Mixed. The 30s block was the meta window for Survivor protection. The post-10.1.0 Repressed Alliance is a gen-tap perk with a shorter protection window.
- Technician: noise reduction 16m (was 8m), skill check penalty 4/3/2% (was 5/4/3%). Buff. The 16m noise reduction is the largest in any perk; pair with Distortion for full aura-hiding.
The post-10.1.0 Survivor meta is: Lithe replaces Sprint Burst as the meta exhaustion perk. Adrenaline + Vigil is the meta exhaustion-stacking combo (the Vigil nerf hurts, but the Adrenaline buff covers it). Boon: Steadfast is a regression-killer and is mandatory in 3-gen situations. Salvation's Cry is the new Kindred in solo queue builds. Fruits of Your Labor is the strongest personal gen-push perk added since Prove Thyself.
Build 1: The Boon Meta (Boon: Steadfast + Boon: Circle of Healing)
The post-10.1.0 meta build. This build does one thing - it makes a single gen area unbreakable. Place the Boon Totem in a 3-gen corner or inside a tile the Killer cannot easily reach, then play the gen under the totem's protection. The 50% slower regression + 10% repair speed means the gen completes even if the Killer commits to a full kick cycle. The 35% heal speed from Boon: Circle of Healing means the team can self-heal to full under the totem.
Perk 1: Boon: Circle of Healing
Boon: Circle of Healing grants 35% self-heal speed to all Survivors in the Boon's range. The perk is the meta self-heal in solo queue because it does not require a teammate to be nearby - the Survivor self-heals in the totem's range.
Why it synergizes with Boon: Steadfast: Both Boons are placed at the SAME totem. The Survivor who blessed the totem gets 35% heal speed + 10% repair speed + 50% regression reduction. The other Survivors in range get 35% heal speed. The combined effect is a single 14m totem that turns a 3-gen area into an unbreakable fortress.
Perk 2: Boon: Steadfast
Boon: Steadfast is the new perk from the patch. It combines with your other Boons, so the totem that gives Circle of Healing ALSO gives 50% slower regression + 10% repair speed. This is the strongest single-Boost effect in the game.
Where to place the Boon Totem: The totem must be in a position the Killer cannot easily reach without committing a chase or a long detour. Good positions: inside a 3-gen corner with a wall, behind a hill on MacMillan Estate, in a locker with the door closed (the totem can be placed inside a locker and is hidden from the Killer until they check). Bad positions: in the open, on a gen in the centre of the map, anywhere the Killer can see during a 5-second detour.
Perk 3: Kindred
Kindred reveals the Killer's Aura to all Survivors when anyone on the team is hooked, and reveals the hooked Survivor's Aura to all other Survivors. The perk is the meta aura-reading tool for solo queue because it is always active - no trigger condition, no cooldown.
Why it is in the build: The build is a 3-gen playstyle. Kindred lets the team coordinate trades without comms - when one Survivor is hooked, the other three see the Killer's Aura and can pre-position for the unhook. Without Kindred, the team has to guess where the Killer is camping.
Perk 4: We'll Make It
We'll Make It grants 100% healing speed to all Survivors when you unhook someone, plus a 6/8/10-second Endurance status to the unhooked Survivor. The perk is the meta altruism perk because it stacks with self-heal speed and gives the unhooked Survivor a free I-frame to escape a tunnel.
Why it is in the build: The build plays around a single 3-gen area. The team will be hooking and unhooking frequently. We'll Make It lets the unhooked Survivor escape to a safe tile and the unhooker to keep the gen area clear. The 100% heal speed stacks with Boon: Circle of Healing's 35% = 135% effective heal speed on the unhooked Survivor (the perk specifies "after unhooking an injured Survivor" which is the standard unhook flow).
Build 2: The Gen-Push Build (Fruits of Your Labor + Prove Thyself)
The fastest gen completion build in the game. Two perks stack to give the highest repair speed in any Survivor build. The build is the meta for tournament play and high-MMR solo queue, and it is the strongest solo carry build for Aurora specifically.
Perk 1: Fruits of Your Labor
Fruits of Your Labor gives 5% Haste for 2s + 10/15/20% healing progress on the gen you finish. The perk is the personal gen-push tool, and it is the strongest single Survivor perk for closing out a 5-gen trial.
Perk 2: Prove Thyself
Prove Thyself grants 6/9/12% repair speed when working with other Survivors, scaling with team proximity. The perk is the meta repair-speed perk and is mandatory in 4-Survivor gen-push.
Why it stacks with Fruits of Your Labor: Prove Thyself is mid-repair, Fruits of Your Labor is end-of-repair. The two perks cover the full repair window: Prove boosts your speed while repairing, Fruits gives you the resource after the gen pops. Together: faster gen completion + faster self-heal from the Token spending.
Perk 3: Fixated
Fixated prevents the Killer's Lullaby from obscuring scratch marks and lets you see your own scratch marks. The perk is the meta chase-pathing tool for solo queue - it lets you track your own path to play for breaking LOS in a tile.
Why it is in the build: Aurora's kit is built around gen efficiency, not chase. The perk is a safety net for when the Killer finds you on a gen - you can play the scratch marks to break LOS. The perk also helps in indoor maps (Hawkins, RPD, Lery's) where the scratch marks are the only navigation tool.
Perk 4: Resilience
Resilience grants a 3% action speed boost when injured. The perk is the meta-injured-repair perk and is mandatory in 4-Survivor gen-push because the team spends 80% of the match injured.
Why it stacks with Prove Thyself: When injured, the Survivor gets +3% action speed on top of Prove Thyself's 6/9/12%. The combined effect is +9/12/15% repair speed when injured in a 4-Survivor gen-push, which is the highest possible repair speed in the game.
Build 3: The Anti-Judgment Build (Salvation's Cry + Kindred + Borrowed Time + Off the Record)
The build is specifically designed for when you are paired against The Judgment in the trial. The Judgment is a ranged Killer with a 3-second camera-controlled light beam, an Exile system that bypasses hook perks, and a passive Heresy mechanic that applies skill check pressure. The anti-Judgment build counters the ranged snipe playstyle by stacking aura info and second-chance perks.
Perk 1: Salvation's Cry
Salvation's Cry reveals the Auras of all other Survivors for 1/2/3s when the chase starts, and reveals the Killer's Aura for 5s to Survivors not being chased. The perk is the anti-ranged-Killer perk because the 3-second Survivor aura + 5-second Killer aura gives your team 8 seconds of total aura info per chase. The Judgment's snipe playstyle requires LOS - if the Killer knows you can see them, the snipe is countered.
Perk 2: Kindred
Kindred is mandatory in any anti-Killer build. The Judgment's Exile mechanic is a hook-state replacement, so when the Survivor is Exiled (instead of hooked), Kindred still triggers and reveals the Killer's Aura. The Exile Survivor can use the aura reveal to play the rescue minigame and return to the main trial.
Perk 3: Borrowed Time
Borrowed Time grants 8 seconds of Endurance to the unhooked Survivor. The perk is the meta anti-tunnel perk and is mandatory in any build that does not include Off the Record. Against the Judgment, Borrowed Time's 8-second Endurance is enough to break LOS from the snipe and reach a tile.
Note: The Judgment's Exile does NOT trigger Borrowed Time. Exile is not a hook. The perk still works on the standard hook (if The Judgment uses a regular M1 down + hook), but the Exile flow does not give you Borrowed Time. Plan for this.
Perk 4: Off the Record
Off the Record grants 80 seconds of no Killer aura reading after the unhook. The perk is the strongest anti-tunnel perk in the game and pairs with Borrowed Time for a 8-second Endurance + 80-second aura-hiding window. Against the Judgment, this combo is enough to fully escape a tunnel and reach a safe tile.
Why it pairs with Borrowed Time: Borrowed Time gives you 8 seconds of safety during the unhook animation. Off the Record extends the safety window to 80 seconds after the unhook. The two perks together cover the full anti-tunnel flow: 8 seconds of I-frames + 80 seconds of aura-hiding. This is the strongest anti-tunnel combo in the game.
Counter-play for The Judgment: how to play against the new Killer
The Judgment's kit is built around Divine Light (a 3-second camera-controlled light beam), the Heresy status (3 stacks of skill check penalty), and Seeds of Punishment (auto-spawning seeds that hit Survivors and trigger Exile). The counter-play is to stay out of LOS, manage Heresy at Shrines, and play the rescue minigame when Exiled.
1. Break LOS aggressively. The Judgment's Divine Light cannot hit a Survivor who is not in LOS. The beam telegraphs for 2-3 seconds before it activates, so a Survivor who has been in LOS for more than 2 seconds should immediately break LOS by moving behind a wall, a hill, or a pallet. The Judgment's 4.4 m/s base speed is slower than most Killers, so a clean LOS break gives you 6-8 seconds of free distance.
2. Manage Heresy at the Shrines. Heretics can Repent at a Shrine of Judgment to begin depleting Heresy over time. The Repent mechanic is the Survivor counter to the Heresy skill check penalty. If you have 1-2 Heresy stacks, run to the nearest active Shrine (it is highlighted in red on the map) and Repent. The Repent takes 5-10 seconds and clears all Heresy.
3. Exile is not the end. When a Heretic is Exiled, they are sent to a separate map to play a rescue minigame. The minigame is a simple skill check: hit the skill check to return to the main trial, fail it to extend the Exile by 30 seconds. The minigame is soloable - the Exiled Survivor can return without team help. If you are the Exiled Survivor, do not panic: focus on the skill check and return in 30-60 seconds.
4. Pray at Shrines to rescue Exiled teammates. If a teammate is Exiled and you are not Exiled, you can Pray at an active Shrine to bring them back faster. The Pray mechanic is a Survivor-side counter to the Judgment's Exile pressure. Use it.
How Aurora plays in 2v8 mode
Aurora is a strong 2v8 pick in the current rotation. The reasons: Boon: Steadfast scales to 2 Killer pressure (2 Killers means 2x regression, and the 50% slower regression is the strongest single counter), Fruits of Your Labor's healing progress stacks with the extra Survivors on the team, and Salvation's Cry's aura reveal gives your team 8 seconds of info per chase in a 7-Survivor game. The perk synergies that work in 1v8 also work in 2v8, but the aura reveal is amplified - your 6 teammates all see the Killer's Aura for 5 seconds, which is enough for a coordinated rescue.
The strongest 2v8 build for Aurora is the Gen-Push build (Build 2) + We'll Make It replacing Resilience. The 7-Surviver gen-push meta for 2v8 wants the fastest gen completion + the strongest altruism, and Fruits + Prove + Fixated + We'll Make It hits both. The build finishes a 5-gen trial in ~6 minutes, faster than any other Survivor build.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best Aurora build in patch 10.1.0?
The Boon build (Boon: Circle of Healing + Boon: Steadfast + Kindred + We'll Make It) is the strongest solo queue build. The Gen-Push build (Fruits of Your Labor + Prove Thyself + Fixated + Resilience) is the strongest tournament build. The Anti-Judgment build (Salvation's Cry + Kindred + Borrowed Time + Off the Record) is the strongest build when paired against The Judgment.
Is Boon: Steadfast meta-warping?
Yes. The perk is mandatory in any build that wants to defend a 3-gen. The 50% slower regression + 10% repair speed + combo with other Boons is the strongest single-Boost effect in the game. Expect the perk to be in 60%+ of post-10.1.0 Survivor builds by October 2026.
Is Sprint Burst still good after the nerf?
No. The 33% duration cut (3s to 2s) makes Sprint Burst the second-best exhaustion perk after Lithe. Lithe's 150% Haste for 3 seconds after a fast vault covers the same distance as old Sprint Burst and adds a vault-distance head start. Adrenaline is now the strongest exhaustion perk for the endgame (4-second Haste + self-heal on gen complete). The Sprint Burst nerf opens the door for Lithe + Adrenaline + Vigil builds to take over the meta.
Is Aurora better than the other Survivors in patch 10.1.0?
Depends on your playstyle. Aurora is the strongest Survivor for gen-push playstyles (Fruits of Your Labor is the meta gen-push perk). For chase builds, the existing Nurse counter builds and the Survivor Runner combo are still the picks. For altruism builds, the Survivor Altruist combo remains the strongest. Aurora is the first Survivor designed for the post-10.1.0 meta - her kit is built around the new Boon and regression-defense mechanics. Other Survivors do not have a perk that synergizes with Boon: Steadfast as well as Aurora's Boon: Steadfast + Boon: Circle of Healing combo.
Does Boon: Steadfast counter Corrupt Intervention?
No. Corrupt Intervention blocks the 3 nearest gens at trial start - it does not cause regression, it prevents repair. Boon: Steadfast only affects regression speed. The 8/9/10% repair speed boost DOES speed up repair under Corrupt, but Corrupt's block is a 3-gen preventer, not a regressor. The counter to Corrupt is Flip-Flop or just running to the unblocked gens at trial start.
